 Christmas Pageant

A wonderful family Christmas tradition is to tell or read the story of the Nativity of Jesus.  One church-family in our area believes so strongly in that tradition that more than 150 parishioners join in the re-enactment of the story of the early life of Jesus Christ, beginning with the "Annunciation" in the Galilean village of Nazareth, through Christ’s birth in Bethlehem, the "Flight to Egypt," and the return of the Holy Family to Nazareth where Jesus spent his boyhood.

In Nazareth, Texas, the Holy Family Catholic Church, a 111 year old Panhandle faith-community, will offer its own tradition by presenting the Nazareth Christmas Pageant in December 2017.  Performances are free to the public.  Love offerings will be accepted.

The pageant is a source of community pride and common purpose.  Multiple generations of families from this Panhandle village have been and are involved.  Community members constitute cast, stage crew, choir and directorial and technical staff with talents from electronics to carpentry, art, mechanics and makeup.  Pageant highlights include music, pantomime and narration.  Lighting and musical effects add dramatic impact.

The script and some music for the pageant were written and arranged by community members.  This year’s version is faithful to the original production in 1972 and ’73.  Many veterans of past pageants are back this year.
